Second Winter Lecture On February 16, 2025

We are pleased to announce the second lecture in our popular Winter Lecture Series. It will take place on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Arts Center located at 313 12th Street in Huntingdon. This will be a moderated panel discussion about Agronomy and Crop Production with four local farmers. They will talk about the history of crop production in our county and how it has changed over the years.

Our Panelists and Moderator:

Bill Hoover from Warriors Mark Township is one of the owners of B&D Acres. The other owner is his wife, Deb. Together, they owned and operated a large grain farm which produced wheat, corn and soybeans. Their main crop fields are now leased to a neighbor and Bill grows you-pick green beans and pumpkins. The original 60 cow farm was purchased from Hoover’s father in 1976.

Russell Kyper from Old Spring Farm in Huntingdon County. Russell is a Penn State graduate with a degree in Agronomy. In addition to propagating corn, soybeans, wheat and hay on his own farm, he also provides agronomy services including soil testing, nutrient management and crop scouting to farms throughout the region.

Tony Ricci from Green Heron Farm in Three Springs. This farm was first established in 1984 by Tony Ricci and Becky Smith who cultivate five acres of organic vegetables. Tony is one of the founding members and organizers of the first Huntingdon Farmers Market in 1985, and has been providing organic produce to the community ever since.

Dean Parks, owner of Parks Orchard in Huntingdon County. Dean and his wife Donna continue to work the land which was originally purchased by Dean’s parents in 1916. They planted the first fruit trees in 1925.

Rodney Davis, owner of Peaceful Terrain Farms in Huntingdon County, and President of the Huntingdon County Farm Bureau will be our moderator.

***Please note that the lecture will be held at the Huntingdon County Arts Center, located at 313 12th Street (corner of Mifflin and 12th) in Huntingdon. Admission is free – donations are welcomed.
